Breaking: Carolina Hurricanes Are Trading for a Forward

Carolina Hurricanes are close to acquiring forward

The Carolina Hurricanes are getting set to take on the Montreal Canadiens tonight with Frederik Andersen making his return to the net and after the lineups came out it was reported Michael Bunting had been scratched and there was a trade incoming. The trade will likely be in tonight after both teams finish playing but it sounds like Jake Guentzel will be traded to the Carolina Hurricanes, what Carolina is sending to Pittsburgh is not known but it is likely Bunting will be a part of it. This comes after today they placed Brendan Lemieux, Tony DeAngelo, and Antti Raanta on waivers

Jake Guentzel By The Numbers

Guentzel was drafted by the Penguins with the 77th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He made his debut on November 21, 2016, and he scored two goals in that game. He has played in 503 career games all with the Penguins recording 466 games coming on 219 goals and 247 assists. This season he has played in 50 games and has recorded 52 points on 22 goals and 30 assists.

Wrap Up

The Hurricanes are in the midst of a push to win the Metropolitan Division as they currently sit six points back of the New York Rangers with a game in hand. They will also face the Rangers one more time this season and that game will come on Tuesday. The addition of Guentzel provides more scoring to the Hurricanes and makes them one of the favorites in the Eastern Conference if the defense and goaltending can hold up. Spencer Martin has been a steal in net since signing with the Hurricanes appearing in five games and going 4-0-1 with a 1.97 GAA and a .922 save percentage. Tonight they also got Andersen back and he played in five games going 4-1-0 with a 2.87 GAA and a .894 save percentage.
