
The Colorado Avalanche have been active the last 24 hours acquiring Brock Nelson last night from the New York Islanders. Today they’ve acquired Charlie Coyle and a 2026 fifth-round pick from the Boston Bruins in exchange for forward Casey Middelstadt, Will Zeller, and a 2025 second-round pick.

Charlie Coyle
Coyle is in his 13th season. The Minnesota Wild drafted Coyle with the 28th overall pick in the 2010 draft. In his first seven seasons with the Wild, he played in 479 games recording 242 points on 91 goals and 151 assists. He is a +32, he also has 28 power-play points with 11 of those coming on goals, and he had a 46.4 faceoff percentage. He’s spent the last seven seasons with the Bruins playing in 452 games recording 230 points on 96 goals and 134 assists. He was a plus-ten with 31 power-play points with 14 of those coming via goals, and he had a 49.9 faceoff percentage. This season in 64 games he has 22 points on 15 goals and seven assists. He is a -14 with three power-play goals and a 49.2 faceoff percentage.
Casey Mittelstadt
Mittelstadt is in his eighth season. He has played with the Buffalo Sabres and Colorado. Buffalo drafted him eighth overall in the 2017 draft. In 419 games he has 230 points on 77 goals and 153 assists. He is a career -57 and has 62 power-play points on 18 power-play goals and he has a 44.9 career faceoff percentage. Middelstadt spent seven seasons in Buffalo playing in 339 games recording 186 points on 62 goals and 124 assists. He was a-43 and had 50 power-play points on 15 power-play goals and he had a faceoff percentage of 45.5.
Last season in Colorado in 80 games he had 44 points on 15 goals and 29 assists. He is a -14, with 12 power-play points, three of those came on goals, and he has a 43.0 faceoff percentage. This season in 62 games he has 34 points on 11 goals and 23 assists. He is a -12, and he has 11 power-play points with two of those coming via goal, and he has a 41.9 faceoff percentage.
Will Zellers
Zeller is currently playing in the USHL with the Green Bay Gamblers. In 40 games he has 58 points on 37 goals and 21 assists.
