Breaking: Detroit Hosts Washington Tonight

After splitting the first two preseason games, the Detroit Red Wings host Washington tonight at LCA, the game time is 7:30 pm ET. The Capitals lost their first game in OT before defeating Philadelphia 3-1 on Wednesday evening.

Wednesday night, Detroit received excellent play from Adam Erne, who scored both Red Wings goals during a 4-2 loss to Chicago. Simon Edvinsson led the Red Wings with 22:36 minutes of playing time. Edvinsson played a regular shift and received time during the power play and on the penalty kill. Red Wings goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic made eight saves on ten shots. Jussi Olkinuora made ten saves on 11 shots during his half of the game for Detroit.

A mixture of top prospects and veterans will suit up tonight. Returning Michael Rasmussen, Pius Suter forwards, and Adam Erne will play tonight. Filip Hronek and Gustav Lindstrom are Detroit’s returning defensemen in the lineup tonight. Victor Brattstrom and Ville Husso will share the goaltending duties.

Trio on amateur tryouts released

On Thursday, the Red Wings released a trio of players from their amateur tryouts. Jake Uberti was sent back to Mississauga (OHL) and promptly picked up three assists in his first game against Niagara. After leading the Prospects Tournament in goals (five), Riley Piercey was sent back to Flint (OHL) and will play his first game of the season at home against Niagara on Saturday. Ivan Ivan was sent back to Cape Breton (QMJHL) and will be an alternate captain when his season begins in Halifax on Saturday.

What top prospects are playing?

Pontus Andreasson is in the lineup for the second consecutive game tonight. Andreasson had 17:10 of playing time on Wednesday and recorded one shot on goal, one hit, and one giveaway. Andreasson also had a -1 rating on the night.

Elmer Soderblom will play his third consecutive game tonight. On Wednesday, Soderblom picked up one assist, three shots on goal, three hits, and two giveaways in 16:46 minutes of playing time. Soderblom was +2 on the night.

Jonatan Berggren will suit up for his second game during the preseason. In his first game on Tuesday, Berggren picked up an assist on Soderblom’s goal, added one shot on goal, and had two takeaways in 11:45 minutes of playing time.

Donovan Sebrango will suit up for his first preseason game tonight. Sebrango played two games during the Prospects Tournament and was an alternate captain during both contests.

Jeremie Biakabutuka is on an amateur tryout and is making the most of his opportunity. Tonight, Biakabutuka is playing in his second consecutive game. On Wednesday, he played 16:19 and killed penalties. He recorded one shot on goal, had four hits, and two giveaways against Chicago.
