Per Elliotte Friedman of Sportner, JT Miller has been traded from the Vancouver Canucks to the New York Rangers.
Alongside Miller, Erik Brannstrom and Jackson Dorrington are being traded to the Rangers. The Canucks will also not retain any salary on Miller in the trade.
The trade package includes Filip Chytil and Victor Mancini, as well as a top-13 protected first-round draft selection in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft returning to Vancouver.
EDITORS NOTE: This article will continue to be updated as details emerge.
This is Miller’s second tenure with the New York Rangers after his first ended in the 2017-18 season where he was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning with Ryan McDonagh for Vladislav Namestnikov, Brett Howden, Libor Hajek, a 2018 first-round draft selection which turned out to be Nils Lundkvist and a conditional 2019 second-round draft selection which turned out to be Karl Henriksson.
Miller, 31, was drafted by the New York Rangers in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft at 15th overall. He has steadily improved his production since joining the Vancouver Canucks.
This trade comes after endless weeks of speculation surrounding a potential rift between JT Miller and Canucks star Elias Pettersson.
Miller was asked to waive his no-movement clause earlier in the night in order to be traded to the Rangers and was held out of the lineup for trade-related reasons.
Darren Dreger reported that the Rangers stepped up at the end and added the pieces to close the deal for Miller.
One has to wonder now if the Rangers get the necessary shakeup they need to make a final push for the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs and if the Vancouver Canucks can improve their season.
