It hasn’t been a secret that the Minnesota Wild would be re-signing Minnesota native Brock Faber to a mega contract extension this summer, which is the first chance they’ve been able to as his current ELC contract doesn’t expire until after the 2024-25 season. And today, they finally announced the new contract.

After an amazing rookie season where Faber only lost the Calder Trophy because he was up against generational talent Connor Bedard, the Wild signed him to the longest contract that they were able to with an 8 year contract. That will lock Faber down as the future of the defensive core through the 2032-33 season.

Faber’s new contract, which starts during the 2025-26 season, will have an average annual value of $8.5 million. This was in line with the $8 million to $9 million per year that was projected before today’s contract was announced.

This contract extension includes a no-move clause and a 15-team, no-trade list after year five of the contract. Judging by how Faber held the blue line together last season while significant chunks of the team were out with injury, the Wild wouldn’t want to move him any time soon.

Last season, Faber was one of the only Wild players to play all 82 games of the season. Originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings during the 2020 NHL Draft, he was traded to Minnesota along with the first-round pick in the 2022 draft which was used to draft Liam Ohgren in exchange for Kevin Fiala.

Faber was chosen as NHL Rookie of the Month for January 2024. He led rookies in time on ice and was 6th overall for TOI in the NHL last season. He put up 47 points (8 goals and 39 assists) and 150 blocked shots. He broke franchise records for most all-time points by a rookie defenseman and came in second for highest point total for a rookie, just behind teammate Kirill Kaprizov.
