Breaking News: Brett Connolly Placed On Waivers

Ahead of Chicago’s Wednesday night tilt versus the Detroit Red Wings, the Chicago Blackhawks have placed forward Brett Connolly on waivers. Connolly is not new to waivers. Connolly has struggled to keep a consistent role on an NHL roster throughout his career. Connolly has played in a total of four games this season, and if you go back to last season when he came over to Chicago, Connolly has only played in fourteen games. In those fourteen games for Chicago, Connolly has scored one goal and one assist.

Connolly has one more year left on his contract following this season. A contract that carries a cap hit of 3.5 million. If and when Connolly clears waivers, it will allow Chicago to bury 1.25 million of his cap hit from their books. This should allow Davidson more wiggle room to play with if he decides to make any moves as the deadline is approaching. With that significant of a cap hit, you can expect Connoly to clear waivers and be moved down to Rockford to allow him to skate in some games for the IceHogs. This season, Connolly has played in sixteen AHL games and has been pretty productive for Rockford. He has five goals and six assist this season in the minors.
