Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask has re-signed with the Boston Bruins on a one-year $1m AAV contract for the remainder of the ’21-’22 season. Rask had taken most of the year off to recover from hip surgery last offseason. Rask has been candid in his media availability throughout the season that he intended to play for the Boston Bruins and that money was not part of his decision-making when returning to NHL play.
Rask returning to the Bruins will more than likely end up with Jeremy Swayman being sent to the AHL Providence Bruins, where he can play the lion’s share of games for the remainder of the season. With a tandem of Linus Ullmark and Tuukka Rask, the Bruins are set to have one of the best goaltending depths in the NHL.
Rask is currently the Bruin’s all-time wins leader with a career record of 306-163-66. Rask has arguably been the best goaltender in franchise history. His career 2.27 goals-against-average and .921 save percentage put him in a realm of his own.
Expectations with a busy week ahead for the Bruins will be for Rask to get a game in. My assumption would be for Rask playing against Montreal or Philidelphia on the back-to-back this week.
