The Minnesota Wild announced a few lineup changes for their upcoming East Coast road trip. The biggest news is that Jared Spurgeon, who has been out with an upper-body injury, has been placed on Long Term Injured Reserve (LTIR). Spurgeon was injured during the preseason and had previously been deemed “week-to-week.” This move means that he’ll miss at least another four games.
Putting Spurgeon on LTIR has afforded them extra cap space and the ability to call up another forward for their road trip. The Wild have pulled up Jujhar Khaira from the Iowa Wild. Khaira is a gritty forward who has been putting up points in Iowa. In the first four games, he’s gotten four assists. He also leads the Iowa team with a plus-three rating.
The Wild also announced that forward Freddy Gaudreau had not joined the team on the road. He has an upper-body injury, but the severity is currently unknown. There has been previous speculation about whether he has been playing injured due to his uncharacteristic play on the ice. Normally good at putting up some points, Gaudreau has been nonexistent on the score sheet.
While the defense without Spurgeon has struggled, they looked a bit better against the Edmonton Oilers. On the offensive side, Gaudreau has been skating on a line with Marcus Foligno and Marco Rossi. While Khaira could slot in there, there is also a possibility that Vinni Lettieri or Brandon Duhaime could play up a line while Khaira slides onto the fourth line. The lineup will be cleared after practice tomorrow morning before a game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
