The NHL announced that Brock Faber had been named the Rookie of the Month for January 2024. This is not surprising to Minnesota Wild fans who know how hard he’s been working the entire 2023-24 season. And as the race for the Calder heats up, this may help Faber move up the rankings with those who aren’t Wild fans.

During January, Faber led rookies in six different categories. When it comes to scoring, he led rookies in points (13) and assists (11). Six of those assists were on the power play, which he also led rookies in. As for the more defensive parts of the game, Faber led the rookies with 38 blocked shots in January. That is 15 more than the next rookie on the list. He also led with 25:24 Time on Ice per game.

Faber also topped the rookie list in power-play points (7) and shots on goal (31). Out of the 14 games that Faber played in January, he hit the scoresheet in eight of them. He also had two games that were a three-point performance and a six-game point streak. This is the longest by a rookie defenseman in Wild franchise history.

Faber is also the first player in Wild franchise history to be named Rookie of the Month. Rookies Lukas Dostal (October) and Connor Bedard (November and December) are the other players who have received this distinction during the 2023-24 season.

While the Wild have had a rough season, rookies Faber and forward Marco Rossi have been bright spots. At times, they’ve been the two players that seem to be holding the team together. Faber has maintained a consistent presence on the ice, although his fatigue has started to show. With fewer injuries and recent defensive trades, the Wild can hopefully cut down his time on ice a little to make sure not to overwork him.
