Charlie McAvoy will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Tuesday.
The Boston Bruins defenseman is facing discipline for an illegal check to the head against Florida Panthers defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson on Monday.
The incident occurred at 9:28 of the first period in the Bruins’ 3-2 overtime win at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. McAvoy received a match penalty.
Ekman-Larsson left the game with a head injury and did not return to play.
McAvoy had scored the game-tying goal at 7:20 of the period as the Bruins came back from a two-goal deficit. The illegal check occurred in front of the net as McAvoy crossed the crease and hit Ekman-Larsson with what appeared to be a shoulder to the head and neck area. McAvoy has two goals and six assists in nine games and plays just under 24 minutes per game of average ice time.
The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: Illegal check to the head. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.
