The Boston Bruins have been the best team in the NHL all season, even if it hasn’t looked like that over their last five games. Despite losing four of their previous five, the Bruins still have the best record in the NHL, as they are 39-8-5 and have 83 points. The Bruins have faced several injuries to key players this season and have done a solid job of overcoming being a man or two down. Lately, the Bruins have been without Jake DeBrusk and Tomas Nosek. DeBrusk is set to make his return sometime this week, but it seems Nosek has encountered a setback during his recovery.
Nosek has been sidelined since Jan. 19, when he suffered a foot fracture against the New York Rangers. He was projected to be re-evaluated in four weeks, which falls on Thursday, Feb. 16.
Last week head coach Jim Montgomery told reporters that Nosek suffered a setback during his recovery. While he isn’t known for offensive production, he was a fixture on the Bruins’ bottom-six forward group and penalty kill units prior to the injury.
“Skated one day. Didn’t go well. He’s off-ice. We’re going to wait a little bit,” Montgomery said, according to Matt Porter of the Boston Globe.
Now that Nosek’s return is up in the air and there is no set timeframe, Bruins fans could see general manager Don Sweeny address the need for depth. Even if Nosek is able to return at some point this season, even if it’s in the playoffs, the Bruins could certainly use another NHL-caliber center for depth and insurance purposes.
