Bruins Prospect Making His Case For AHL Rookie of the Year

This past summer, the Bruins invited a young forward to their rookie camp, and he hasn’t looked back. In what is turning out to be the most under-the-radar signing this offseason, the Boston Bruins have unearthed a gem in undrafted Luke Toporowski.

Toporowski attended Bruins Rookie Camp on an invitee basis and instantly stood out from others. Thanks to his play, the forward earned himself a two-year AHL contract in Providence, and in year one, he is already making an early case for Rookie of the Year.

The 21-year-old recently recorded his first career professional hat trick against the Syracuse Crunch, helping him jump up the rookie scoring race.

Thanks to his high level of skill and talent that he showcases every game, Toporowski now finds himself fourth with 18 points for rookie skaters and second in goals with nine goals. That Bettendorf, IA native’s offensive skills have translated perfectly from the WHL to the AHL immediately, which sometimes is not the case. Now the Bruins will hope that Toporowksi can translate those same skills to the NHL one day, as he could be a core member for years to come.

Unfortunately, the Bruins only have Toporowski’s signing rights until January 1st, and after that, any team can offer him a contract with the Bruins having the chance to match any off. The Bruins did just make room for a new contract, though, with the release of prospect Victor Berglund bringing their total to 47 contracts on the books.

The Bruins better be ready to act fast, as pro scouts have had their eyes on Toporowski over the past few weeks. A sign that the league has begun to take notice of the skillset the young forward could bring to their team if acquired.
