Bruins Prospect Making His Case For AHL Rookie of the Year

This past summer, the Bruins invited a young forward to their rookie camp, and he hasn’t looked back. In what is turning out to be the most under-the-radar signing this offseason, the Boston Bruins have unearthed a gem in undrafted Luke Toporowski.

Toporowski attended Bruins Rookie Camp on an invitee basis and instantly stood out from others. Thanks to his play, the forward earned himself a two-year AHL contract in Providence, and in year one, he is already making an early case for Rookie of the Year.

The 21-year-old recently recorded his first career professional hat trick against the Syracuse Crunch, helping him jump up the rookie scoring race.

Thanks to his high level of skill and talent that he showcases every game, Toporowski now finds himself fourth with 18 points for rookie skaters and second in goals with nine goals. That Bettendorf, IA native’s offensive skills have translated perfectly from the WHL to the AHL immediately, which sometimes is not the case. Now the Bruins will hope that Toporowksi can translate those same skills to the NHL one day, as he could be a core member for years to come.

Unfortunately, the Bruins only have Toporowski’s signing rights until January 1st, and after that, any team can offer him a contract with the Bruins having the chance to match any off. The Bruins did just make room for a new contract, though, with the release of prospect Victor Berglund bringing their total to 47 contracts on the books.

The Bruins better be ready to act fast, as pro scouts have had their eyes on Toporowski over the past few weeks. A sign that the league has begun to take notice of the skillset the young forward could bring to their team if acquired.

Edmonton Oilers: Bringing Back The Same Goalies

There’s a former Italian soccer player named Gennaro Gattuso, who began his coaching career after his playing days were over. He has a viral and funny moment where, during a media availability, he said, “Sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe sh**”; obviously referring to the soccer team he coached at the time. Even though the quote is […]

Opinion: Why Rangers’ Zibanejad Will Return to Form This Upcoming Season

Last season was a rough one for New York Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad. For starters, his production was not what it should have been for someone who is being paid to be the team’s number one center. Zibanejad, 32, had 62 points (20 goals and 42 assists) while playing in all 82 games last season. […]
