The Carolina Hurricanes are getting set to drop the puck on their 2023-24 season tomorrow night when they take on the Ottawa Senators. Today, they made a move to trade defenseman Caleb Jones to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for forward Callahan Burke.
Trade By The Numbers
Callahan Burke
Burke signed as a free agent in 2021 with the Colorado Avalanche out of the University of Notre Dame. At Notre Dame, he played four seasons and was a Captain in his final season; he played in 146 games for the Fighting Irish, scoring 36 goals and recording 52 assists for 88 points; he finished his college career as a plus nine. His best season at Notre Dame came in his third season when he put up 30 points coming on 12 goals and 18 assists; he was a plus nine that season. Since signing with the Avalanche, he has spent most of his career in the AHL with Avalanche affiliate the Colorado Eagles, playing in 160 games and recording 74 points and a plus five; last season, he played in 70 games and recorded 39 points, scoring 16 goals and was a +12. He did appear in two games for the Avalanche last season but did not register a point and finished as a -1.
Caleb Jones
Jones was acquired in the offseason by the Hurricanes, but due to the depth the Hurricanes have on the blue line, he found himself as the odd man out. In his career, he has played in 217 games, recording 50 points, 275 blocked shots, and a -39; last season, for the Chicago Blackhawks, he played in 73 games and put up a career-high 16 points, 118 blocked shots and was a -19 due to the Blackhawks not being a good team.
