Chandler Stephenson Replaces Matty Beniers at 2023 All-Star Weekend

January 30, 2023 -The National Hockey League announced today that Vegas Golden Knights forward Chandler Stephenson was named and will head to the 2023 Honda NHL All-Star Weekend, which will take place at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida. The event will include the NHL All-Star Skills on Friday, February 3, and the Honda NHL All-Star Game on Saturday, February 4.

Stephenson replaces Matty Beniers of Seattle Kraken on the Pacific Division roster. Beniers, 19, considered a front-runner for the Calder Trophy as the league’s rookie of the year was injured in the second period of last Wednesday, February 25, victory over the Vancouver Canucks when he was blindsided behind the play by Vancouver defenseman Tyler Myers.

Stephenson will join teammate Logan Thompson and head coach Bruce Cassidy at All-Star weekend. Stephenson will be making the first All-Star appearance of his six-year NHL career.

The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native Stephenson leads the Golden Knights with 44 points (11 goals, 33 assists) in 51 games this season.

Since making his NHL debut on Oct. 15, 2015, Stephenson has compiled 198 points (68 goals, 130 assists) in 390 career games played.

Stephenson, drafted by Washington in the third round, 77th overall in 2012, was acquired from the Washington Capitals on Dec. 2, 2019, in exchange for a fifth-round NHL Draft pick by the Vegas Golden Knights. He won a Stanley Cup in 2018, with the Capitals beating the Golden Knights in five games.

Stephenson played four seasons for the Western Hockey League’s Regina Pats, where he was named to the WHL East Second All-Star Team in 2014.
