Charlotte Checkers Advance to Calder Cup Playoffs

The Charlotte Checkers have completed a sweep of the Laval Rocket in the Eastern Conference Finals. They finished off the series outscoring the Rocket 18-6. The Checkers have outscored their opponent 45-21 in the Calder Cup Playoffs. Charlotte enters the Calder Cup Finals on an eight game winning streak and are 10-1-1 in the playoffs. Out of the 18 goals for Charlotte ten different Checkers scored a goal.

Charlotte Checkers vs. Laval Rocket Game 4 Recap

Scoring

The Rocket got the scoring started in the first when Joshua Roy scored his fourth goal of the playoffs. In the middle period Owen Beck scored his second to give the Rocket a 2-0 lead. The Checkers got a goal back as Justin Sourdif scored his third of the playoffs. Before the halfway point of the second period MacKenzie Entwistle scored his first of the playoffs to tie the game up. In the third period with just over two minutes left in regulation Charlotte got the game-winner. Jesse Puljujarvi scored his second of the playoffs which would be the game-winner.

Goaltending

Kaapo Kahkonen has been dominate all playoffs, tonight he continued stopping 23 of the 25 shots he faced. He stopped all six shots he faced in the third period. Jacob Fowler stopped 23 of the 26 shots he faced for Laval.

Next Up

The Checkers will now wait for their opponent in the Calder Cup Finals. The Abbotsford Canucks lead the Texas Stars in the Western Conference Finals 2-1. Game four of that game will be tomorrow night. Now that the Panthers and Checkers are both in the finals they have the chance to do something that hasn’t been done since 1995.
