Chicago Blackhawks prospect Drew Commesso was recalled from the Rockford IceHogs on Tuesday.
The United States National Team Development Program product has played in six of the Icehogs’ 12 games this season with a 3.71 goals against average and a .854 save percentage.
Rockford is 4-8-0-0 on the year and currently last in the American Hockey League’s central division.
The Blackhawks goaltending this year between Petr Mrázek and Arvid Söderblom has been substantially better than it could be, but not where the Blackhawks need it to be with Mrázek hosting a 5-8 record with a 2.79 GAA and a .906 SV% while Söderblom sits with a 1-3 record with a 2.22 GAA and a .934 SV%.
The Blackhawks signed Laurent Brossoit in the offseason, but the 31-year-old NHL veteran has missed time this season after recovering from meniscus surgery.
Currently, no announcement has been made of if the Blackhawks will send a goaltender down to Rockford (Söderblom would be the most likely option should that be a requirement) or if the Hawks will carry a scratched goaltender for the time, but Mrázek was not on the ice for morning skate on Tuesday.
