Columbus Sends Nyquist to Minnesota

The NHL trade deadline is approaching fast, and many teams are making moves today into the evening hours as the Columbus Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild made a trade where the Wild picked up forward Gustav Nyquist in exchange for Minnesota’s 2023 5th-round pick in the draft.

The 33-year-old Swedish forward is in the state of hockey now after a three-season stint with the Blue Jackets. This season, Nyquist has 22 points(10G,12A) in 48 games this season. In his stint with the Blue Jackets, the well-known forward racked up a lot of playing time, grabbing 117 points (43G,74A) in 200 games with Columbus.

Nyquist, who is 5’11”, has some experience up with the Sweden National Team getting 19 points (15G,4A) in 33 games with Sweden. The left-handed shooter has spent most of his time with the Detroit Red Wings Organization from 2011-2019. General Manager Bill Guerin spoke to the press following the trade giving Nyquist lots of praise for knowing his body and knowing when he’ll be able to return from his injury. Nyquist was hurt in a game on January 25th against the Edmonton Oilers; his shoulder injury is expected to keep him sidelined for at least the rest of the regular season
