The Thursday rundown of the NHL Waiver Wire has been released, and there’s a lot of activity, especially with the trade deadline approaching in less than 24 hours. Thursday, March 7th saw eight players placed on waivers, including three from the Carolina Hurricanes.
Calgary Flames Place Jordan Oesterle on Waivers
The Calgary Flames placed Jordan Oesterle on waivers today. Oesterle, 31, has played 371 career NHL games where he’s played for the Edmonton Oilers, Arizona Coyotes, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, and the Calgary Flames.
The left-shot defenseman scored a career-high in goals (6), assists (14) and points (20) in 71 games with the Arizona Coyotes during the 2018-19 season. In his 2023-24 season, Oesterle has scored two assists in 22 games for the Calgary Flames. He signed a one-year contract with the Flames worth $925,000 total. Oesterle has also played 12 games with the Calgary Wranglers in the AHL this season, scoring eight assists. He is expected to clear waivers and report to the Calgary Wranglers.
Carolina Hurricanes Place Tony DeAngelo, Brendan Lemieux, and Antti Raanta on Waivers
The Carolina Hurricanes placed Tony DeAngelo, Brendan Lemieux, and Antti Raanta on waivers today. DeAngelo, 28, is in his second stint with the Hurricanes, he signed a one-year contract worth $1.675 million in the 2023 offseason. Lemieux, 27, signed a one-year contract worth $800,000 with the Hurricanes. Raanta, 34, signed a one-year contract extension worth $1.5 million total with Carolina in the 2023 offseason. These moves allowed the Hurricanes to activate Frederik Anderson off of injured reserve and make a potential trade down before Friday’s trade deadline.
DeAngelo has played 367 career NHL games for the Arizona Coyotes, New York Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Philadelphia Flyers. He has played 27 games this season scoring three goals and seven assists for 10 points. DeAngelo’s career high in goals (15) and points (53) came during the 2019-20 season with the New York Rangers. His career high in assists (41) came during his first tenure with the Hurricanes. It is expected that a team will claim DeAngelo for depth reasons. He is a right-shot, right-side defenseman who has eclipsed 50 points twice in his career.

Lemieux has played 298 career NHL games for the Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, and the Carolina Hurricanes. He has played 23 games this season scoring one goal and three points, he also has 50 penalty minutes. His career high in goals (12) came during the 2018-19 season where he split 63 games between the Winnipeg Jets (44) and New York Rangers (19). He scored nine goals for Winnipeg and three for the Rangers. He scored a career-high in assists (12) and points (18) and posted a career-high 111 penalty minutes during the 2019-20 season with the Rangers. It is expected that a team will claim Lemieux
Raanta has 277 career NHL games under his belt for the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, Arizona Coyotes, and the Carolina Hurricanes. His best season came in the 2017-18 season where he played 47 games, winning 21 and losing 23 for the Arizona Coyotes. Raanta posted a 0.930 save percentage (SV%) and a 2.24 goals-against average (GAA). He’s played 24 games for the Hurricanes posting a 0.872 SV% and a 2.99 GAA. He is expected to clear waivers and report to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.
Chicago Blackhawks Place Boris Katchouk on Waivers
The Chicago Blackhawks have placed Boris Katchouk on waivers. The 25-year-old has spent three seasons in the NHL with the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Chicago Blackhawks. His career-high in goals (5), assists (11) and points (16) in 58 games for the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2022-23 season. He has tied his career-high in goals in 38 games this season, so far. Katchouk has scored five goals and nine points in 38 games for the Blackhawks in the 2023-24 season.
Florida Panthers Place Evan Cormier on Waivers, William Lockwood Clears Waivers
The waiver wire activity gets a little dicey going forward, the Florida Panthers placed William Lockwood on waivers yesterday, March 6th. Today, they announced that Lockwood cleared waivers and will report to the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL. Today, the Florida Panthers have placed Evan Cormier on waivers. The 26-year-old Cormier has yet to make his NHL debut. He was drafted in the fourth round at 105th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. It is expected that Cormier will clear waivers and report to the Charlotte Checkers.
Los Angeles Kings Jacob Moverare Clears Waivers, Jaret Anderson-Dolan Claimed by the Nashville Predators
The Los Angeles Kings put two players on waivers yesterday. Jacob Moverare cleared waivers and was assigned to the Ontario Reign of the AHL, and Jaret Anderson-Dolan who was claimed by the Nashville Predators.
The 25-year-old Moverare was drafted by Los Angeles in the fourth round, 112th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He’s played 31 career NHL games over three seasons for the Kings where he’s posted two assists. He’s played 10 games in the 2023-24 season at the NHL level and 34 games at the AHL level. He’s scored two goals and 18 points for the Ontario Reign this season. He will report back to the Ontario Reign of the AHL.

Anderson-Dolan, claimed by the Nashville Predators, was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings 41st overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. He has spent parts of six seasons with the Kings, playing 126 games scoring 15 goals and 13 assists for 28 points. In his 2023-24 season for the Kings, he’s scored one goal and four points in 30 games. He will report directly to the Nashville Predators.
Philadelphia Flyers Ryan Johansen Clears Waivers, Assigned to Lehigh Valley Phantoms
After the Sean Walker trade to Colorado, the Philadelphia Flyers acquired and immediately placed Ryan Johansen on waivers. Johansen, 31, was drafted fourth overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He has played for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Nashville Predators, and the Colorado Avalanche. In his 2023-24 season, Johansen scored 13 goals and 23 points in 63 games for Colorado. Johansen has played 905 career games where he’s scored 202 goals and 376 assists for 578 points. He will report to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL.
Toronto Maple Leafs Place William Lagesson on Waivers
The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed defenseman William Lagesson on waivers today. This move comes after the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Joel Edmundson from the Washington Capitals earlier today. Lagesson, 28, has split four seasons between the Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadiens, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Lagesson was drafted in the fourth round at 91st overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers. In 90 career NHL games, Lagesson has posted 11 assists and points. He has tied his career high of four assists with the Maple Leafs this season, which he set in the 2021-22 season with the Edmonton Oilers. Lagesson is expected to clear waivers and report to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
Vegas Golden Knights Place Tobias Bjornfot on Waivers
The Vegas Golden Knights have placed defenseman Tobias Bjornfot on waivers today. Bjornfot, 22, was drafted 22nd overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He has split time in the NHL and the AHL since 2019-20. The defenseman was claimed on waivers by Vegas earlier this season and has split time between the Vegas and the Henderson Silver Knights. In 119 career NHL games, Bjornfot has scored one goal and 15 points. It is expected that Bjornfot will clear waivers and be assigned to the Henderson Silver Knights.
