Winnipeg Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck has been named a finalist for the Hart Trophy for the first time in his NHL career.
The two-time winner and six-time finalist for the Vezina Trophy is a strong candidate to take a third Vezina and his first Hart Trophy for his stellar play this season.
Hellebuyck’s 47 wins, .925 save percentage (SV%), 2.00 goals-against average (GAA, and eight shutouts nearly netted him the goaltender quadruple crown, but his save percentage fell just a little shy of Anthony Stolarz. Had Hellebuyck completed this feat, it would’ve been the first goaltender quadruple crown since the late 1970s.
Hellebuyck looks to add a separate prestigious mark to his resume, becoming the second goaltender to win the Hart, Vezina and William M. Jennings Trophies in the same season. Carey Price is the only goaltender in NHL history to meet this mark, but it leaves him shy of being the only goaltender to win the Hart, Vezina and Conn Smythe Trophies in one season.
As the Jets look to go on a long Stanley Cup Playoff run, Connor Hellebuyck will be eyeing more hardware in his trophy case as the season winds down.
The Hart Trophy is awarded to the NHL player who is deemed the most valuable player of their respective team. Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers and Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning were the other two finalists for the 2024-25 award.
Hellebuyck is the only finalist this year to never be nominated as a finalist for the Hart Trophy or win the Trophy outright.
