Connor Hellebuyck has been named the NHL’s First Star of the Week for the week ending November 10th. This is his second time being named an NHL Star of the Week with his first time being a Second Star recognition in mid-October.
This should come as no surprise given Hellebuyck’s incredible stretch of games over the past week. The 31-year-old notched a 21-save shutout over the Utah Hockey Club on Tuesday, November 5th. The two-time and reigning Vezina Trophy winner notched his second shutout of the week in the Jets’ 1-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche.
Hellebuyck’s second shutout of the week marked his 40th career shutout. This shutout also marked the first time that he’s posted consecutive shutouts in his NHL career.
In the Jets’ final game of the week, they defeated the Dallas Stars 4-1 in what was nearly a third consecutive shutout for Hellebuyck. He managed to set the franchise record for the Jets’ longest shutout streak at 191:47.
Hellebuyck finished the week with a 3-0-0 win-loss record, including two shutouts, a 0.33 goals-against average (GAA) and a .989 save percentage (SV%). His 2023-24 season was crowned by his second Vezina Trophy and his first William Jennings Trophy. He was also named to the NHL’s First All-Star Team.
His 2024-25 season numbers are quite impressive too. The Commerce, Michigan native leads all NHL goaltenders in wins (11), shutouts (3), GAA (1.85) and SV% (.935).
Hellebuyck’s impressive week helped the Winnipeg Jets become the first club in NHL history to win 14 of their first 15 games.
