Edmonton Oilers Captain Connor McDavid has become the fourth-fastest NHL player to reach 1,000 career points, with his milestone goal assisted by none other than Leon Draisaitl on Thursday night against the Nashville Predators. McDavid’s father was present at Rogers Place, proudly witnessing this incredible feat in his son’s career. This accomplishment makes me wonder if McDavid can reach 2,000 career points, which seems entirely possible given his greatness.
Connor McDavid only trails Mike Bossy (3rd), Mario Lemieux (2nd), and Wayne Gretzky (1st) in this statistic. He has become the 99th player to reach the 1,000-career point mark, achieving this milestone in just 659 games. This accomplishment is even more impressive when you consider the significantly higher level of goaltending in the modern NHL compared to the eras of the other legends ahead of him. To put this in perspective, McDavid reached 1,000 points in 98 fewer games than Sidney Crosby and 211 fewer games than Alex Ovechkin, which is truly remarkable. I completely agree with Leon Draisaitl, who stated after the game on Tuesday night, following a 4-3 overtime win against the Islanders, “He is the greatest player to ever play in my book.”
Connor McDavid has set up Leon Draisaitl for an astounding 192 goals throughout his career so far, with Ryan Nugent Hopkins second at 71 goals.
Finishing off the game in overtime, Connor McDavid delivered a slick no look pass to Darnell Nurse, which he slapped it in the net to give the Oilers a 3-2 win, recording his 1,001st career point.
