Cory Schneider Announces Retirement

Earlier this week, Cory Schneider announced his retirement from the NHL after 15 seasons. During Schneider’s 15-year career, he spent time with the Vancouver Canucks, New Jersey Devils, and New York Islanders. He played in 410 games, putting up a 171-159-58 record with a 2.43 GAA, .918 SV%, and 26 shutouts. His best numbers came with the Vancouver Canucks, who drafted him 26th overall during the 2004 NHL Draft; in 98 games with the Cancucks, he went 55-26-8 with a 2.20 GAA, .927 SV%, and nine shutouts. In 2011, Roberto Luongo and Schneider would take home the Jennings Trophy, and during the 2012-13 season, he would lead the league in shutouts with five. On June 30th, 2013, he would be traded to the New Jersey Devils for a first-round pick where the Canucks would select Bo Horvat. During his time in New Jersey, he had decent numbers. He would make the All-Star Team in 2016 but would be plagued by injuries and an over-crowded net at the ladder end of his time with the Devils and would end up signing a one-year deal with the Islanders and would spend three seasons in the Islanders organization, most of it in the AHL with the Bridgeport Islanders where he put up a record of 33-23-10 with a 2.87 GAA, .915 SV%, and two shutouts. His last NHL appearance came on April 3rd of 2022, where he made 27 saves in a 4-3 victory for the Islanders.
