The Dallas Stars filled a need on Thursday with the acquisition of forward Max Domi from the Chicago Blackhawks. Domi and goaltender Dylan Wells were shipped to Dallas for veteran goaltender Anton Khudobin and a 2025 second-round draft pick. No salary was retained in the deal.
Domi, who turned 28 years old on Thursday, signed a one-year deal with the Blackhawks before this season and has been one of the team’s most dynamic offensive players, with 18 goals and 31 assists in 60 games. He also has been one of the team’s best faceoff men with a 53.7 win percentage. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound left wing has played in 24 postseason games in his career with three goals and six assists. All three goals came as a Carolina Hurricane last season. Domi was a first-round pick (12th overall) in 2013 by Phoenix (Arizona) and has played in 561 career regular season games.
Wells is a 25-year-old netminder who was a fifth-round pick of Edmonton in the 2016 draft and acquired by Carolina for future considerations in 2021. Wells was signed as a free agent in 2002 by Chicago and is 9-6-1 this season with the Rockford Ice dogs of the American Hockey League with a .296 goals against average and .906 save percentage.
Khudobin, 36, is currently playing with the AHL’s Texas Stars, appearing in 24 games with a 2.89 goals against average and a .899 save percentage. He has not played for the NHL’s Stars since last season.
