Dallas Stars & Sam Steel Agree to Extension

The Dallas Stars entered the Four Nations break in second place in the Central Division trailing the Winnipeg Jets by nine points for first place. They are also two points ahead of the Minnesota Wild who are in third place as well as four points ahead of the Colorado Avalanche who hold the top wild card spot. Today they locked up 27-year-old center Sam Steel to an extension. Steel and Stars agreed to a two-year extension with a 2.1 AAV.

Sam Steel

Steel is in his seventh season and Dallas is his third different team. Steel was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks with the 30th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He spent his first four NHL seasons with Anaheim. Steel would play in 197 games recording 65 points on 24 goals and 41 assists with 14:09 average TOI. He signed with the Minnesota Wild on August 30, 2022. In 65 games with the Wild, he recorded 28 points on ten goals and 18 assists with a 14:58 average TOI.

He then signed with the Dallas Stars where he’s spent the last two seasons. Last season in 77 games he had 24 points on nine goals and 15 assists with a 13:15 average TOI. In the playoffs in 19 games last season, he had five points on a goal and four assists. This season in 53 games he’s got 17 points on four goals and 13 assists with a 14:45 average TOI.
