Dallas Stars Win One Game in Week 2 of Preseason

The Dallas Stars continued their preseason with Week 2. The Stars played two road games with the Colorado Avalanche and the Minnesota Wild and two home games with the Avalanche and the division rival St. Louis Blues. Here’s the recap of all four preseason games.

Sunday, October 1
The Dallas Stars lost 4-3 to the Colorado Avalanche in overtime in the first game of the home-and-home series at Ball Arena on Sunday. Dallas fell to 3-1, while Colorado improved to 2-2.

Stars goaltender Scott Wedgewood made 19 saves and allowed three goals for a loss. Stars backup goaltender Christopher Gibson made 14 saves and allowed one goal in relief. Colorado Avalanche goaltender Alexandar Georgiev stopped 25 saves on 28 shots for a win.

The Stars arrived in Denver a few hours before pregame, and the Avalanche didn’t hold a morning skate.

The Avalanche struck first as Riley Tufte scored a goal at the low slot and the top crease for an early 1-0 lead about two minutes into the opening period. The Stars trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes.

The Stars tied the game 1-1 early in the second period. Nick Caamano snuck a shot past the five-hole of Alexandar Georgiev for the game-tying goal.

The Avalanche regained the lead. Devon Toews fired a laser past Scott Wedgewood to put the Avalanche up 2-1. Frederik Olofsson fired a shot into the net to extend the Avalanche’s lead to 3-1 late in the second period. The Stars were down 3-1 after 40 minutes.

The Stars made it a one-goal game with under three minutes left in the third period. Matěj Blümel cut the Avalanche’s lead to 3-2 with a shot through traffic and into the back of the net.

The Stars tied the game 3-3 with 27 seconds left in the third period and forced overtime. Nils Lundkvist fired a one-timer through traffic for the equalizer.

Oskar Olausson scored the game-winning goal, and the Avalanche won 4-3 in overtime.

Tuesday, October 3
The Dallas Stars bounced back with a 3-1 win over the Avalanche at the American Airlines Center in the second game of the home-and-home series. Dallas improved to 4-0, while Colorado fell to 2-3.

Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger made nine saves on ten shots and allowed one goal before exiting the game. Stars backup goaltender Scott Wedgewood made eight saves in relief. Avalanche goaltender Justus Annunen made 27 saves for the win.

After a scoreless first period, Ondrej Pavel scored a short-handed goal to give the Avalanche a 1-0 lead in the second period. The Stars responded late in the second, thanks to Jason Robertson’s shot into a wide-open net. The Stars and Avalanche were tied 1-1 after 40 minutes.

Joe Pavelski and Craig Smith scored the Stars’ two third-period goals. The Stars won 3-1.

Thursday, October 5
The Dallas Stars got shutout 4-0 by the St. Louis Blues at American Airlines Center on Thursday. Dallas fell to 4-1, while St. Louis improved to 3-2.

Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger made 24 saves in a losing effort. Oettinger was pulled with a little over three minutes left in regulation. Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington stopped all 25 shots he faced.

The Blues got on the board first. Justin Faulk fired a deflected shot into the net for a 1-0 lead. The Stars trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes.

Neither team scored in the second period. The Stars continued to trail 1-0 after 40 minutes.

Robert Thomas tucked in what looked like an imperfect goal to double the Blues’ lead to 2-0 early in the third period. Thomas tripled the Blues’ lead to 3-0 with a little less than two minutes left in the third. Jake Neighbours quadrupled the Blues’ lead to 4-0 with an insurance goal late in the third.

Saturday, October 7
The Dallas Stars concluded the preseason with a 4-0 shutout loss to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center. Dallas fell to 4-2, while Minnesota improved to 5-1.

Stars backup goaltender Scott Wedgewood made eight saves and allowed three goals in a losing effort, while Stars goaltender made 11 saves and allowed just one goal in relief. Wild goaltender Filip Gustavsson stopped all 22 shots he faced.

The Wild struck first. Jake Middleton scored a snipe goal for a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. The Stars trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes.

Neither team scored in the second period. The Stars continued to trail 1-0 after 40 minutes.

The Wild’s three-goal third period was the difference-maker. Jon Merrill scored an early goal to make it a 2-0 game. Kirill Kaprizov scored a power-play goal for a 3-0 lead with a little less than 13:30 left in the third period. Marco Rossi added a goal with 8:40 left in regulation to make it 4-0.

Notes
The Dallas Stars recalled forward Kyle McDonald from the Texas Stars on Wednesday, October 4. In addition, Dallas loaned defenseman Alexander Petrovic to Texas on Saturday, October 7.
