Darnell Nurse Out for Stanley Cup Rematch

The Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers will play tonight in a rematch of last season’s Stanley Cup Finals. The Panthers took the first three games of the series with the Oilers taking game four, five, and six to force a game seven. Florida would avoid the comeback and win game seven to secure the Stanley Cup. The Panthers took the first rematch of the season 6-5 back on December 16, 2024. The Oilers tonight will be without Darnell Nurse who in the first meeting finished a plus-one and had six penalty minutes. In last season’s Stanley Cup battle, Nurse had three points on two goals and an assist. He was a plus-six, had ten hits, and 17 blocked shots. It has not been announced what the injury Nurse is dealing with just that he is dealing with something.

The Oilers drafted Nurse seventh overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. This is his 11th season, all with Edmonton. In 695 games he has 289 points on 80 goals and 209 assists. He is a career +75, has 35 power-play points, ten shorthanded points, 1,258 blocked shots, and 1,504 hits. Nurse finished seventh in Norris Trophy voting in 2020-21, he had 36 points in 56 games on 16 goals and 20 assists. He was a career-high +27, had seven power-play points, 100 blocked shots, and 117 hits. This season in 55 games he has 22 points on four goals and 18 assists, he is also a plus-eight. He has one power-play point, a shorthanded goal, 94 blocked shots, and 110 hits.
