The Detroit Red Wings were reportedly in the goaltender market this offseason, and today they acquired a goaltender. The Red Wings are acquiring goalie John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for goalie Petr Mrazek and a 2027 second-round draft pick, as well as a 2026 fourth-round draft pick; there is no salary retention. This now gives the Red Wings a goalie tandem of Cam Talbot and John Gibson, which is a solid 1A and 1B situation. Gibson was injured to start the season, and Lukas Dostal took over the net for the Ducks, making him available for trade. Red Wings General Manager Steve Yzerman was reportedly interested in acquiring Gibson at the trade deadline, but couldn’t get a deal done; now he does.
