Detroit Red Wings Affiliates and Prospects Check-In

The Detroit Red Wings entered the Four Nations break 28-22-5 and holds the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Their minor league affiliates also hold playoff spots. Detroit’s AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, are currently 25-16-3-1 with 54 points in second place in the Central Division. Their ECHL affiliate, the Toledo Walleye, leads the Central Division and also leads the Western Conference with a 31-10-6-0 record with 68 points.

Grand Rapids Griffins

The Griffins this season have been led by Dominik Shine who in 42 games has recorded 33 points on 11 goals and 22 assists. He’s also spent time recently with the Red Wings. Joe Snively has recorded 29 points this season on 16 goals and 13 assists. In goal, they’ve been led by Sebastian Cossa who is 14-9-3 with a 2.23 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage. Cossa also represented them at the All-Star game along with Austin Watson.

Toledo Walleye

The Walleye have been led by Brandon Hawkins who has 63 points which leads the ECHL. He has 27 goals and 36 assists, he is tied for the league lead in goals and leads the league in assists. Tyler Spezia also has 51 points on 23 goals and 28 assists. He is third in the ECHL in points and fourth in goals. In goal, they’ve been led by Jan Bednar who is 18-6-3 in 27 games with a 2.26 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage.

Red Wings Top 10 Prospects

1.) Defenseman – Axel Sandin-Pellikka – Skelleftea AIK

Sandin-Pellikka has a lot of hype around him and Detroit fans can’t wait for his arrival. This season in the SHL he has 25 points in 34 games on ten goals and 15 assists; he is a minus-one. He also played in the World Juniors tournament recording ten points on four goals and six assists. In all of International play, he had 13 points on five goals and eight assists.

2.) Forward – Michael Brandsegg-Nygård – Skelleftea AIK

Brandsegg-Nygård this season in 30 games in the SHL has 11 points on five goals and six assists. He played for Norway in the World Junior recording just a goal. In all of International play, he had five points on four goals and an assist.   

3.) Forward – Marco Kasper – Detroit Red Wings

Kasper has had a great recent stretch for the Red Wings. He started the season with Grand Rapids recording two points in two games on a goal and an assist. He has 20 points this season with the Red Wings on nine goals and 11 assists. Since the coaching change in Detroit, he has 13 of his 20 points. Those 13 points have come on seven goals and six assists.

4.) Forward – Nate Danielson – Grand Rapids Griffins

Danielson in 44 games with Grand Rapids has 22 points on four goals and 18 assists. He is a plus-four. He’s been quiet as of late not recording a point since January 17th.

5.) Goalie – Sebastian Cossa – Grand Rapids Griffins

Cossa as mentioned above has led the Griffins. He did get a win with the Red Wings earlier this season in his lone appearance during his brief stint stopping 12 of the 14 shots he faced in a relief appearance. He’s looking to get back on track having lost his last two starts after a four-game winning streak.

6.) Goalie – Trey Augustine – Michigan State Spartans

Augustine has led the second-ranked team in college hockey. He’s gone 15-5-3 with a 2.07 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage with two shutouts. He also made five appearances with Team USA in the World Juniors going 4-1-0 with a 2.52 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage. He led Team USA to a Gold Medal.

7.) Forward – Dmitri Buchelnikov – Vityaz Moscow

Buchelnikov has played in 49 games with Vityaz Moscow Region of the KHL. He has recorded 40 points on 13 goals and 27 assists; he is a minus-seven.

8.) Forward – Carter Mazur – Grand Rapids Griffins

Mazur has been injured but has since returned. In his first three games, he started the season off hot recording two points on a goal and an assist. Since returning he has three points on a goal and two assists.

9.) Defenseman – William Wallinder – Grand Rapids Griffins

Wallinder has played in 35 games this season for Grand Rapids. He’s recorded 13 points on two goals and 11 assists; he is a minus-three.

10.) Forward – Amadeus Lombardi – Grand Rapids Griffins

Lombardi hasn’t played since December 1st. In 20 games she had 15 points on nine goals and six assists. He had a three-game point streak going at the end of November recording four points on three goals and an assist.
