Detroit Red Wings Assign Top Two Prospects to Grand Rapids Griffins

The Detroit Red Wings picked up a 6-4 win over the Dallas Stars last night. They now have two games left to their season. Meanwhile in the AHL their affiliate the Grand Rapids Griffins will be in the Calder Cup playoffs. Due to them extending their season the Red Wings are reassigning forward Michael Brandsegg-Nygard and defenseman Axel Sandin-Pellikka from Skelleftea of the SHL. This is a huge boost for the Griffins heading into the playoffs.

Michael Brandsegg-Nygard

Brandsegg-Nygard was drafted 15th overall by the Red Wings in the 2024 draft. This season in the SHL in 42 games he had 11 points on five goals and six assists. He also played International hockey with Norway where in five games he had five points on four goals and an assist. In International Junior play he had a goal in five games. In the playoffs with Skelleftea AIK he had six points in 11 games on four goals and two assists.

Axel Sandin-Pellikka

Sandin-Pellikka also in the SHL played in 46 games, recording 29 points on 12 goals and 17 assists. In the World Juniors for Team Sweden, he had ten points in seven games on four goals and six assists. In the playoffs for Skelleftea AIK, he had eight points in 11 games on a goal and seven assists. The highly anticipated debut of Sandin-Pellikka in the United States is finally coming.
