The Detroit Red Wings have had an active week as they signed forward Lucas Raymond back on an eight-year contract extension with an average annual value of $8.075 million. They also brought back Jonatan Berggren on a one-year contract, worth $825,000. Today they completed the signings as they bring back the final piece to the puzzle in defenseman Moritz Seider as they’ve agreed to a seven-year contract with an average annual value of $8,550 million. This all comes as the Red Wings started training camp today and Steve Yzerman said just two days ago that he felt they were close, well it looks like they were.
The 6-3 205 lbs defenseman was drafted by the Red Wings with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, he would make his debut on October 14, 2021, and wasted no time finding the score sheet as he recorded two assists in just his first game. He would score his first goal on November 6, 2021; he would finish his rookie season playing in all 82 games recording 50 points on seven goals and 43 assists which led to him winning the Calder Memorial Trophy.
In his second season, he once again played in all 82 games for the Red Wings this time recording 42 points on five goals and 37 assists. Last season once again playing in all 82 games he recorded 42 points again with a career-high nine goals and 33 assists.
