Detroit Red Wings Signed a Goalie

The Detroit Red Wings dropped their season opener to the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-3 last night at Little Caesars Arena. The Red Wings’ three goals came from Alex DeBrincat who had two and Vladimir Tarasenko. During the game, the Red Wings lost defenseman Jeff Petry due to an upper-body injury in the second period and it was announced that he would not return. The injury has moved Simon Edvinsson into Moritz Seider into a pairing.

Petry is in his 14th season in the NHL, having played with the Montreal Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers, and Pittsburgh Penguins as well as the Detroit Red Wings with whom he started his second season in last night’s loss. The Ann Arbor. Michigan native has played in 938 games entering tonight with 377 points on 95 goals and 282 assists; he’s a career -126 with 388 penalty minutes, 1,482 blocked shots, and 1,980 hits. Last season with the Red Wings he played in 73 games recording 24 points on three goals and 21 assists; he was a minute seven, he had 39 penalty minutes, 134 blocked shots, and 150 hits.

The Red Wings return to the ice Saturday against the Nashville Predators and if Petry isn’t good to go it could mean a call-up for potentially Justin Holl or Albert Johansson slots into the lineup.
