Detroit Red Wings Lose Two in Second Period

The Detroit Red Wings are entering the third period in their big matchup against the Ottawa Senators in which they trail 2-1. When the Red Wings returned for the second period Cam Talbot took over the goalie’s net which signified Alex Lyon suffered an injury in the first period which was later confirmed as it was announced he had suffered an upper-body injury. The Red Wings also suffered a scare in the second period as Simon Edvinsson left the game. He would return for the start of the third period.

This is a big game for the Red Wings as they currently sit three points out entering play tonight for the final Wild Card spot and have won four straight games. The Senators have dominated the Red Wings in recent games so it’s all the more important to come away with a win and two points tonight but they may be doing it shorthanded.

Alex Lyon

Lyon this season is 8-5-0 and he has one shutout posting a 2.77 goals-against average as well as an .899 save percentage. He’s been the Red Wings best goalie as of late going 3-0-0 in his last three starts entering tonight; he also played in the Red Wings loss to the Maple Leafs, he’s posting a 1.81 goals against average and a .922 save percentage in that span. He had stopped all ten shots he faced tonight in the first period as well, hopefully it’s not a serious injury as the Red Wings will need him going forward but if it is it’s likely it’ll be Ville Husso or Jack Campbell getting the call-up as to showcase a potential trade if needed.

Simon Edvinsson

Edvinsson has appeared in 35 games recording 14 points on four goals and ten assists; he is a plus-three and averages 20:44 of ice time. Tonight he had two shots on goal in 9:40 of ice time.
