The Detroit Red Wings practiced today before tomorrow’s matchup with the Ottawa Senators. The Red Wings are off to their best start through four games since 2019-20, when they started the season the same as now at 3-1-0. Following practice today, Detroit Red Wings head coach Derek LaLonde gave some unfortunate news as he said Forward Robby Fabbri would be out a month with a lower-body injury and that the injury is not his knee but is worse than initially thought; Fabbri this season has played in one game and in that game, he recorded a goal which came on the power-play in the Red Wings 4-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils.
LaLonde also said another forward was hurt during practice today and left the ice early. It is unknown who the forward is at this time, but he said the player might not be available for tomorrow’s game against Ottawa. The plan is for the Red Wings to recall a forward from Grand Rapids today, but they may plan on going with 11 forwards and seven defensemen in tomorrow’s matinee against the Senators. Hopefully, the player who suffered an injury is nothing serious and isn’t out long-term.
The goalie plan for this weekend with the Red Wings having back-to-back matchups starting with the Ottawa Senators, Ville Husso will be in goal, making his fourth start of the season; he is 2-1-0 with a 3.37 GAA and a .881 save percentage. Sunday’s game against the Calgary Flames will have James Reimer in goal, making his second start for the Red Wings, coming off a shutout over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night in which he stopped 23 shots.
