Red Wings Prospect Check In

The Detroit Red Wings are coming off a three-win week, beating the New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins, and Minnesota Wild and outscored them 13-3.

However, the Red Wings’ minor league affiliates combined to go 2-3-0 over the last week, with their AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, going 1-1-0. They split the weekend series against Manitoba, winning Friday but losing Sunday; they outscored the Moose 6-3. The Griffins slipped to sixth place in the Central Division at 5-8-1-1 with 12 points. The Red Wings ECHL affiliate, the Toledo Walleye, went 1-2-0 over the weekend, and despite the rough weekend, they still sit in first place in the Central Division at 9-3-1-1 and 20 points. The Walleye were outscored 12-11. Now, the three stars of the week for the Red Wings prospects.

Three Stars of the Week

3.) Forward- Alexandre Doucet – Toledo Walleye

Last week, Doucet put up three points for the Walleye, recording a goal and two assists. In Wednesday’s game, he didn’t record a point. On Saturday, he had a goal in the 4-3 loss. On Sunday, he had two assists. , recording five points, four goals, and an assist. This season, in six games, he has nine points coming on four goals and five assists, and he is a plus-four.

2.) Forward – Jonatan Berggren – Grand Rapids Griffins

Berggren isn’t much of a prospect, but he is in the Red Wings system, and he had a great weekend, putting up four points. On Friday, he had a goal and an assist in the Griffins win, on Sunday, he did the same with a goal and an assist in the loss. This season, in his 11 games in the AHL, he has 11 points coming on four goals and seven assists, and he is a minus-four. With Detroit this season, Berggren played in two games and didn’t record a point.

1.) Forward – Nate Danielson – Brandon Wheat Kings

Danielson was drafted by the Red Wings ninth overall in the 2023 draft. He had four points on three goals and an assist in four games for the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League. On Wednesday, he had his best game of the week, scoring two goals and an assist. He also recorded an assist on Saturday. He did not record a point on Friday or Sunday. This season, in 20 games for Brandon, Danielson has 17 points on eight goals and nine assists.

Next Up:

The Griffins will play Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday this coming week. Wednesday, they get the Chicago Wolves, who are currently unaffiliated with any NHL team, Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM. Then, on Friday and Saturday, they will play the Milwaukee Admirals, the affiliate of the Nashville Predators; the puck drop is set for 7:00 PM in both those games as well. 

The Walleye will play three games this week, starting with a game on Wednesday against the Wheeling Nailers, the ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, with puck drop set for 7:10 PM.; The Walleye lost to the Nailers last Wednesday 4-2. On Saturday and Sunday, they will face the Iowa Heartlanders, the Minnesota Wild affiliate. Saturday puck drop will be at 7:15 PM and Sunday at 5:15 PM.
