The Detroit Red Wings will take on the Vegas Golden Knights tonight as they continue their homestand. Last night, the Grand Rapids Griffins shut out the Texas Stars 3-0 behind Ville Husso, making a conditioning stint since he’s been out since December 18th. The Red Wings, over the past week or so, have been calling up Brogan Rafferty and sending him back down; today, to give him a break, they have called up Wyatt Newpower before tonight’s game.
Wyatt Newpower By The Numbers
Newpower spent his college career at the University of Connecticut playing in 114 games over four seasons, and he had 47 points on 11 goals, 36 assists, and was a career plus three. He started his professional hockey career with the Cleveland Monster in 2020-21, playing in 24 games and recording ten points on three goals and seven assists, and was a plus-ten. He joined the Red Wings organization following that season and has played in 134 games; he has 23 points on six goals and 17 assists and is a plus-three. This season, he has played in 20 games, recording six points on a goal five assists, and is a plus-seven. In last night’s 3-0 win, Newpower recorded an assist on Jonatan Berggren’s goal in the third period that resulted in the game-winner.
Wrap Up
He most likely won’t slide into the Red Wings lineup, especially with the team not playing again until Wednesday after tonight, and then they enter a ten-day break with the All-Star game and their bye. The move does give the Red Wings a little depth with Olli Maatta out.
