The Detroit Red Wings are very active today as this morning they signed Patrick Kane to a one-year contract and will reunite him with his former teammate Alex DeBrincat. Now, they have decided to call up Jonatan Berggren from Grand Rapids of the AHL. This is Berggren’s second stint in Detroit this season.
Jonatan Berggren By The Numbers
Berggren was drafted by the Red Wings in the 2nd round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft with the 33rd overall pick. He made his NHL debut last season, which came on November 10th, and he recorded his first career point on an assist on a Joe Veleno goal; he would score his first career goal on November 15th against the Anaheim Ducks. His play forced the Red Wings to keep him up; he played in 67 games, and recorded 28 points on 15 goals and 13 assists; he finished as a -14. In seven games last season for Grand Rapids, he has recorded seven points, coming on four goals and three assists. He has spent most of the season in Grand Rapids, playing in 11 games, recording 11 points, and coming on four goals and seven assists; he got called up to the Red Wings this season and played in two games but didn’t register a point in either.
Bottom Line:
The call-up for the Red Wings is intriguing, but they have a back-to-back on Wednesday and Thursday, so that it might be a just-in-case situation, and they’ll have the body present for them. It remains to be seen if Patrick Kane will suit up in either game as well which ironically comes against two of his former teams the New York Rangers, whom Kane played in 19 games last season, and the Chicago Blackhawks, whom Kane spent the first 16 seasons of his career with.
