Detroit Red Wings Roster Moves 12/28

The Detroit Red Wings are coming off their ninth loss in the last 11 games, and during that recent stretch, they have been outscored 48-33; they have also given up five or more goals in six of those games. Today, they announced some moves as Alex Lyon returned to practice, and Red Wings head coach Derek LaLonde announced that Lyon would be getting the start in net tomorrow night; with Lyon returning, the Red Wings have placed Michael Hutchinson on waivers, assuming he clears tomorrow he will be returned to Grand Rapids. Also, at practice today, Joe Veleno, Olli Maatta, and Jeff Petry all skated. Veleno left practice early and will be out for tomorrow night’s game, but Maatta and Petry will both be back and with them returning, the Red Wings have sent Simon Edvinsson back to Grand Rapids.

Roster Moves By The Numbers

Alex Lyon

Lyon has been fun to watch in his first season with Detroit after spending his first six seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Florida Panthers. In seven games for Detroit, he is 4-3-0, posting a 2.14 GAA and a .932 save percentage. He ranks seventh in save percentage and GAA.

Michael Hutchinson

With Grand Rapids, Hutchinson had made 13 starts, going 5-7-1 with a .895 save percentage and a 2.98 GAA. When the Red Wings lost Lyon and Ville Husso, they signed Hutchinson to a two-way contract, and he made one start during his time in Detroit; he played well, stopping 33 of the 36 shots he saw against the New Jersey Devils, but unfortunately, took the loss.

Olli Maatta

Maatta is in his 11th season and second season with Detroit, and he has played in 27 games and recorded six points on a goal and five assists; he is plus-six and has 29 blocks and 16 hits. He has quietly had a good season for Detroit, and hopefully, his being back in the lineup will help the Red Wings on the backend.

Jeff Petry

Petry has been in and out of the lineup all season as a healthy scratch; in 27 games this season, he has ten points coming on a goal and nine assists, and he is a plus-two and has 49 blocks and 34 hits.

Simon Edvinsson

Edvinsson in Grand Rapids had played in 25 games, recording 16 points on six goals and ten assists, and his play earned him the call-up to Detroit with the injuries. In Detroit, he played in two games and recorded one point on an assist; he was zero in plus/minus and had three hits.

Wrap Up:

The Detroit Red Wings will have two home games tomorrow night against the Nashville Predators and Sunday against the Boston Bruins. They will head out on their west coast trip next week, taking on the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, and the Anaheim Ducks a week from Sunday. They need at least six to seven points in their next five games to stay in the race for a playoff spot.
