Detroit Red Wings Roster Now at 28

Last night the Detroit Red Wings wrapped up their preseason schedule with a 3-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs; the Red Wings got goals from Christian Fischer and Andrew Copp. Today they have trimmed their roster down to 28 starting with defenseman Justin Holl being placed on waivers. Then the following players were assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL, forwards Nate Danielson, Cross Hanas, Marco Kasper, Carter Mazur, and Elmer Soderblom, defenseman Tory Dello, Antti Tuomisto, Eemil Viro, and William Wallinder, finally goalies Sebastian Cossa, and Carter Gylander. Finally, forward Michael Brandsegg-Nygård has been loaded to Skellefteå AIK of the Swedish Hockey League. All can be recalled before the season opener but for the time being, have been assigned to the AHL.

The roster being down to 28 includes 15 forwards ten defensemen, and three goalies. It’s a bit surprising that Kasper is sent down but his stint down there may be short term after he impressed in the preseason with two goals the other night and centering the second line with Vladimir Tarasenko and Patrick Kane. The one interesting name that remains on the Red Wings roster as of now is Austin Watson who gives them an enforcer after finished the preseason with 16 hits and 27 penalty minutes, the question is do they keep him for opening night?

The Red Wings will kick off their regular season on Thursday night at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the other question is which of the three goalies with get the net to start the season for Detroit?
