Detroit Red Wings Set Roster for Opening Night

The Detroit Red Wings will kick off their 2024-25 campaign on Thursday at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Yesterday a lot of players were moved around as the roster was trimmed down to 28 heading into today where all 32 NHL teams have to limit their roster down to 23. The Red Wings have gone with 13 forwards, seven defensemen, and three goals as Austin Watson was signed and will be sent down to Grand Rapids if/when he clears waivers tomorrow which will bring the roster to 22 and 12 forwards on the roster; Justin Holl cleared waivers today and was assigned to Grand Rapids as well. Forwards, Sheldon Dries, Joe Snively, defenseman Holl, William Lagesson, and Brogan Rafferty were all sent to Grand Rapids today as well.

The forwards that made the team as of today are Jonatan Berggren, J.T. Compher, Andrew Copp, Alex DeBrincat, Christian Fischer, Patrick Kane, Dylan Larkin, Tyler Motte, Michael Rasmussen, Lucas Raymond, Vladimir Tarasenko, and Joe Veleno. The defenseman are Ben Chairot, Simon Edvinsson, Erik Gustafsson, Albert Johansson, Olli Maata, Jeff Petry, and Moritz Seider. Finally, the three goalies as expected are Ville Husso, Alex Lyon, and Cam Talbot. Today Red Wings head coach Derek LaLonde didn’t announce who would be tending the net on Thursday night.
