Detroit Red Wings Sign a Forward

The Detroit Red Wings kicked off their offseason by signing Cam Talbot, William Lagesson, Erik Gustafsson, and Jack Campbell yesterday. Today they continued their additions by adding Tyler Motte to a one-year contract with an 800K AAV. The Red Wings are trying to build a roster that will get them back to the playoffs for the first time since 2015-16; they came close last season but on the final day of the season despite winning in overtime the Capitals took care of what they needed to and clinched the final Wild Card spot. These moves may not be flashy to most fans but they are building and keeping spots open for the prospects they have that can slide in and get some NHL experience.

Tyler Motte By The Numbers

Motte will enter his ninth season, he’s played in 400 games recording 90 points coming on 49 goals and 41 assists, he’s a career minus 27; he has recorded 110 penalty minutes and 870 hits. Last season, he played in 69 games recording nine points on six goals and three assists; he was a minus-eight, recorded 28 penalty minutes, and had 97 hits.

Wrap Up

One thing is for sure is that Steve Yzerman loves adding players from Michigan as Motte is from St. Clair, Michigan. It remains to be seen if the Red Wings are done but the moves are building a foundation for the future which will frustrate fans who were hoping the rebuild was over and the Red Wings would have a free agency like the Nashville Predators showed out yesterday but this roster isn’t bad and, likely, they aren’t done and another move is coming especially with a goalie being moved.
