
The Detroit Red Wings this afternoon are keeping their 24-year-old restricted free agent defenseman Antti Tuomisto. The Red Wings signed Tuomisto to a one-year contract extension for the 2025-26 season. Tuomisto played in 67 games last season with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL. He recorded 27 points on three goals and 24 assists. He was a plus-two with 54 penalty minutes and a game-winning goal.

The Red Wings drafted Tuomisto with the 35th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Tuomisto played in two seasons in the NCAA with the University of Denver. In 59 collegiate games, he had 20 points on three goals and 17 assists. He was a +18 with 44 penalty minutes. In 2022-23, he played with TPS in Liiga. In 60 games, he had 20 points on five goals and 15 assists. He was a minus-six with 20 penalty minutes. Tuomisto also played in five international games with Finland, recording only a goal. He had four penalty minutes.
In 2023-24, he played in five games in the ECHL with the Toledo Walleye. Tuomisto had six points on four goals and two assists. He was a plus-five and didn’t have any penalty minutes. He then went on to play in 50 games with Grand Rapids, recording 17 points on five goals and 12 assists. he was a plus-four 24 penalty minutes, a power-play goal, and two game-winning goals.
