The Detroit Red Wings saw their points streak snapped tonight as they suffered a 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, and they dropped to 5-2-1 on the year but still hold second place in the Atlantic Division.
Raymond’s goal a spark?
Lucas Raymond scored the lone goal for Detroit. To start the season, his linemates Dylan Larkin and Alex DeBrincat have all the success, but he’s only had six points, including tonight coming on two goals and four assists. Hopefully, the goal tonight will provide a spark to get him going and add more offense to that first line, which could only make this Red Wings team scarier. With Raymond’s goal, Moritz Seider had an assist for his 100th point, and Larkin had the other assist and extended his point streak, as he has a point in every Detroit game to the season.
Rasmussen solid tonight
The night that Michael Rasmussen had won’t show up on the score sheet, but he had a great game tonight. Last season, we saw Rasmussen grow, and he was a key part of the Red Wings last season, but once he suffered that season-ending injury, the team took a turn. The goal for this year is to see Rasmussen continue his growth, keep him healthy, and make him a part of that “core” Steve Yzerman mentioned all offseason. He finished the night with three shots on goal and a blocked shot.
Goaltending
The Red Wings offense was there tonight as they recorded 36 total shots on Connor Hellebuyck, but the Winnipeg goalie turned in his best performance of the young season. On the Detroit side, Reimer had a rough first, allowing two goals on ten shots, but he settled in during the rest of the game, stopping 16 of the remaining 17 shots he saw but with the Red Wings offense not being able to beat Hellebuyck he suffers his first loss as a member of the Red Wings.
Next Up:
The next game for the Detroit Red Wings will be a big one as they will take on the first place Boston Bruins in Boston. This game will be a big test for the Red Wings to see if they are capable of making the jump this season despite their recent losses.
