Detroit Red Wings Takeaways From Loss To Panthers

Red Wings Takeaways loss to Panthers

The Detroit Red Wings suffered a 2-0 loss tonight at the hands of the defending Eastern Conference Champion Florida Panthers. It was a weird game where Detroit couldn’t get a break. Here are some takeaways from tonight’s loss.

Reimer solid again

James Reimer got the start against his former team tonight, and despite the score being 2-0, Reimer looks like a solid backup for the Red Wings as he allowed 25 goals on 26 shots tonight. The won goal that wasn’t with an empty net was a freak goal that went off Reimer’s glove, then the crossbar and off his back into the net. It could have easily been a 0-0 game in the third with the way Reimer was in the net.

DeBrincat silent

Alex DeBrincat has been held off the score sheet in four straight games after his hot start. He had a beautiful chance in the second period, and it would have been a highlight goal if he was able to put it home, but it didn’t happen. It might be a little concerning that he hasn’t recorded a point in those four games, but it’s a long season, so it’s not time to panic yet.

Florida Struggle

The Red Wings have lost ten straight (0-8-2) to the Panthers, with their last win coming on February 20, 2021. They have been outscored 42-15 in those games. Sergei Bobrovsky has also been dominant against the Red Wings tonight, improving to 25-6-1 lifetime against Detroit.

Next Up:

On Saturday, the Red Wings will have a big game on tap as they welcome the Boston Bruins, who currently hold the best record in the Eastern Conference. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM.
