The Detroit Red Wings took on the Seattle Kraken tonight and saw their five-game winning streak end in overtime as the Kraken took home the win. Lucas Raymond had a chance to win it in the extra time but rang the crossbar, and Seattle scored shortly after. The Red Wings still take home a point, and the Detroit offense looked good; here are some takeaways from tonight’s game despite the loss.
Veleno Stays Hot
Joe Veleno seems poised for a breakout season, which continued tonight as he scored his fourth goal in his third game. He had a chance in the first period but hit the crossbar, and in the second period, he didn’t miss as he deflected home a shot to give the Red Wings the early lead.
Second Line Scoring Issue
The second line has played well to start the season, but they must get going on the score sheet. J.T. Compher, Andrew Copp, and Michael Rasmussen make up the second line. They have combined for ten points, with only five of the Red Wings’ 30 goals to start the year coming from them. They have combined only six of those ten points coming when playing together. It might be worth a shot to slide Rasmussen down to the third line, move David Perron to the second line, and see if that could provide a spark.
Gostisbehere Must Stay
Gostisbehere loves his time in Detroit and has a point in every game except for Sunday’s win over the Flames. He has found a lot of success on the power-play as he has two goals and four assists on the man advantage; tonight alone, he had a goal and two assists, all of which came on the power-play. He has eight points on three goals and six assists to start the season.
Larkin & DeBrincat Stay Red Hot
The Red Wings Captain has started this season with at least a point in all seven games, as he has 14 points to start the season with four goals and ten assists; he is tied with Jack Hughes for the league lead. With the goal he scored in the third to tie it, he recorded his 450th career point. Larkin’s linemate Alex DeBrincat was at it again, giving the Red Wings the lead midway through the third with his league-leading ninth goal of the year, and Larkin, of course, picked up an assist on the goal.
Next Up:
The Red Wings should not have lost tonight, but they did and will try to create a new winning streak on Thursday night when they wrap up their home stand against the Winnipeg Jets with puck drop set for a normal time at 7:00 PM.
