Detroit Red Wings to Retire Segei Fedorov’s Number

The Detroit Red Wings today announced that the number 91 will head to the rafters. The Red Wings last night teased some news today, and the news came that they would be retiring Sergei Fedorov’s number. The ceremony will be on January 12, 2026, before the Red Wings game against the Carolina Hurricanes. This news is long-awaited, and it is finally happening in Hockeytown during the Red Wings’ 100th anniversary season.

The Red Wings drafted Fedorov 74th overall in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. He spent 13 seasons with the Red Wings, appearing in 908 games with 954 points on 400 goals and 554 assists. He was a +276 with 117 power-play goals, 31 shorthanded goals, 79 game-winning goals, and 587 penalty minutes. Fedorov won the Selke Trophy in 1993-94 and 1995-96. He also won the Hart Trophy in 1993-94. Fedorov won three Stanley Cups with the Red Wings. He was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2016. After his time with the Red Wings, he went to play for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Washington Capitals. In 340 games between the three teams, he had 225 points on 83 goals and 142 assists. He was a -15 with 27 power-play goals, five shorthanded goals, 14 game-winning goals, and 252 penalty minutes.
