Detroit Red Wings Trim Roster Down

The Detroit Red Wings have trimmed their roster down to 41 entering tonight’s preseason finale. The team announced today that they have released forward Isaac Ratcliffe from his professional tryout. They have also assigned forwards Amadeus Lombardi, Alexandre Doucet, and Jakub Rychlovsky to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL. The team has also designated forward Tim Gettinger and defenseman Shai Buium as injured non-roster; forward Ondrej Becher will continue his rehab at Grand Rapids. Goaltender Gage Alexander has been assigned to the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL.

The following have been released from their professional tryouts and will be returned to Grand Rapids, forwards Hunter Johannes and Dominik Shine as well as defenseman Josiah Didier. In a corresponding move, the Griffins have assigned forwards Carson Bantle, Gabriel Seger, defenseman Chaz Reddekopp, and goalie Jan Bernar to Toledo.

The Red Wings will obviously have to get the roster down to 23 for Thursday night’s opener meaning they will have to trim down 18 more players. It’ll be interesting to see who makes the final roster with players like Marco Kasper who had two goals last night and Austin Watson who has been an enforcer for Detroit this preseason. As well as the goaltending question with Ville Husso, Alex Lyon, and Cam Talbot; who will be the starter when opening night hits on Thursday. Will Husso or Lyon be in Grand Rapids or not dress and be a third goalie much like Lyon was to start last season? There are many questions to be answered over the next few days and it sure will be a tough decision to make.
