The New Jersey Devils have come to terms with one of their own. While it is not Jesper Bratt, who has his hearing tomorrow, another forward has signed a deal and avoided arbitration. The Devils have come to terms with forward Tyce Thompson on a two-year contract. The first year is a two-way deal, while the second year is a one-way contract. The deal is worth $750,000 in year one and $775,000 in year two. He was initially scheduled for an arbitration hearing on August 11.
The Career So Far
Thompson had skated in only two games for the Devils last season. Despite missing time with a nagging shoulder injury, he returned to play for the Utica Comets. He went on to post 15 points in 16 games while adding two points in the Calder Cup playoffs.
Thompson spent time in Providence from 2018-2021. He had a productive time with the club as he notched 25 points in 25 games. In his sophomore season, he would finish third in scoring as he finished with 44 points in 34 games. He would finish his providence career with 38 goals, 56 assists, and 94 points.
The Devils would go on to draft Thompson in the fourth round of the 2019 NHL Draft. The team hopes he can stick with the big club in the short term. He is the brother of Buffalo Sabres center Tage Thompson.
