He used to play for our team, yet I completely forgot he was still in the league. Drake Cagguila was with the Edmonton Oilers from 2016 to 2019, part of the 2017 roster that ended the franchise’s ten year postseason drought. In 156 NHL games with the Oilers, he put up 49 points and scored 3 Playoff goals in 2017.
He’s been a journeyman since then, playing for three other NHL teams, but hasn’t played close enough to a full 82 game season. That is mostly due to being plagued with multiple injuries, including a herniated disc that kept him out for 64 games in 2022. He played just 4 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins this past season but played 65 AHL games for the Wilkes-Barrie/Scranton Penguins, putting up 53 points. He is returning to Edmonton on a two-year, two-way contract paying an AAV of $775K. It looks like he’ll be more of a 12th/13th forward or depth forward option in case of injuries.
Before that, they gave a similar contract to Lane Pederson. The only difference is that it’s one-way instead of two-way. He played 27 total games this season between the Vancouver Canucks and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Pederson has 11 career NHL points in 71 career NHL games.
