Matt Duchene was not expected to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, however, after new Nashville Predators general manager Barry Trotz bought out Duchene, making Duchene a free agent.
Matt Duchene and the Dallas Stars have agreed on terms to a one-year contract worth $3 million annually. Duchene most recently spent his 2022-23 season with the Nashville Predators, where he posted 22 goals and 34 assists for 56 points in 71 games. Duchene’s 2021-22 season saw him post a career-high 43 goals and assists for 86 points in 78 games.
Duchene played his best two seasons with the Predators before being bought out. Duchene has played for four NHL teams, including the Colorado Avalanche, Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, and the Nashville Predators. Duchene now gets to add the Dallas Stars to that list of teams he played for.
The 32-year-old Haliburton, Ontario native was drafted third overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and has played 976 career games where he’s posted 316 goals and 428 assists for 744 points in his career.
Duchene will be an unrestricted free agent once his contract expires at the end of the 2023-24 season.
