ECHL: 2024 Kelly Cup Champion is Heading Overseas

2024 Kelly Cup Champion Bobo Carpenter is heading overseas to play for the Belfast Giants (EIHL) of the United Kingdom. Carpenter, who recently led the Florida Everblades to a third consecutive Kelly Cup, served as an assistant captain this past season. The 27-year-old accumulated 46 points during the regular season and outperformed all Florida skaters with 23 points and 12 goals during the team’s extended playoff run. Prior to this, he played four years in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals and Bridgeport Sound Tigers, following a four-year stint with Boston University, where he won the Hockey East Championship in 2018.

Bobo’s father, Bobby, was an outstanding forward who played 18 years in the NHL. He was most famously known for being the first American player to score 50 goals in one season. During his career, he won one Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in 1995. Over his 18-year tenure in the NHL, he transitioned from being a high goal scorer to becoming one of the best shut-down centers in the league.

Earlier this Summer, the Cincinnati Cyclones acquired forwards Bobo Carpenter and Zach Tsekos from the Florida Everblades to complete the future considerations trade that sent Zack Andrusiak to Florida at the trade deadline. This is a miss for the Cyclones, but I did not expect him to end up in Cincinnati for this upcoming season, given he has already won a Kelly Cup, and the pay overseas is better. Read below on what Head Coach of the Giants, Adam Keefe, thinks about the signing:

“Bobo is a winner, and he comes from a great hockey family. He is fresh off the back of an ECHL championship, in which he was the leading goal scorer in both the league and playoffs for Florida. He has a great shot and isn’t afraid to do whatever it takes to win. Bobo’s work ethic will make him a fan favourite here in Belfast. We are excited to have him.”
